HawaiiUSA FCU’s Headquarters lobby renovation was designed to be customer-focused with an enhanced user experience and security features to ensure members and employees feel safe and welcome. The design incorporates the credit union’s accent pattern throughout the space to embody its unique brand identity.

The Brand Essence

HIUSA’s brand essence revolves around their members, putting them at the center with a focus on service and community. Their motto “life matters” is a reflection of HIUSA’s commitment to helping members achieve the things that truly matter to them.

How the new HIUSA Headquarters lobby shows members & employees they are what matters most

      The wrapping detail of the wall treillage that carries up and over the ceiling is representative of a Koa tree canopy in that it is both biophilic in materiality (wood) and provides reprieve from outdoor elements, inviting members into the lobby space.

      HIUSA’s accent pattern includes a Koa leaf inspired design called Koa Kupuna to represent strong foundations, roots, and longevity. This pattern is also incorporated into the wood panels around the lobby.

      Another component HIUSA’s accent pattern is called Pili Pa’a and is inspired by the lashing used on Wa’a (canoe) to keep the vessel together and stabilized. This design is featured as a vinyl graphic on the interior glazing. Pili Pa’a represents the unity, trust, and harmony that HIUSA strives to maintain with their members and employees alike.

      In HIUSA’s accent pattern, the water design, called Ke Alahele represents the path of HIUSA, its flourishing future, and bringing life into the community. The water pattern is embodied in the lobby through subtle paving design as well as in the blue venetian plaster behind the central concierge desk.

      The O’o is a tool used to plant and harvest crops, representing rebirth, germination, and sustenance; a reminder of the economic support that HIUSA prioritizes for members and a tie to their ‘Olelo no’eau : From the past we follow the path bringing life to the community.

      The use of glazed walls allows for secured space separation between workspaces and the branch, while maintaining enough visual connectivity to allow spaces to feel open and inviting and have access to natural light.
